I’ve been playing backgammon for a long time but I never considered the backgammon board I was playing on.  I didn’t see a need to; I figured the board itself wouldn’t make a difference to the game as long it was split into 4 sections of 12 points each; that’s all I needed to play.  But not too long ago a friend of mine went to France and brought back this really amazing backgammon set that was designed after the Knights Templar.  The points were raised of the board and columns of castle, the checkers were knights, and it has some really fun features, like a moat for the bar where your set the doubling cub and hit checkers.  Now, that was a fancy board, but was it fun to play!

It’s funny but backgammon sets really can make a game more interesting and fun.  Now, I’m not going to go out and start buying a bunch of very expensive boards to play on, but I can go online.  If you haven’t played online backgammon for awhile, there are sites now that allow you to play all types of different backgammon sets, sets based on real life boards that were uploaded virtually to the online casino.  It’s really a lot of fun and you get to see all the different and unique backgammon sets that are out there.  I’m basically playing every one I can find, having fun, and when I find a board I really like, I’m going to see where it came from and try to find a similar one for myself.
